If you come across a group of foreign young people who are curiously wandering on campus this weekend, please don’t be surprised. They are exchange students from other parts of the world who recently arrived in our campus.
In this early spring, these exchange students who are from Japan, Korea, Germany, Australia and many other countries started their fresh journey in Shandong University. To bids them the warmest welcome, Students’ International Communication Association of Shandong University (SICA) organized the event of “Exchange Students Orientation of SDU 2009 and Campuses Tour”. This event successfully enhances the friendship and trust between exchange students and SDU’s students.
The Orientation which was held in the NO.2 Meeting Room of ShaoYifu Science Hall of East New Campus started at 8:30a.m. on Feb.28th. LiuMingli and other three teachers from International Communication Office attended the Orientation. Accompanied by their Chinese buddies who are volunteers from SICA, more than twenty exchange students were also present at the event. They couldn’t wait to know more about Shandong University.
On behalf of SDU, Teacher LuNa of International Communication first gave the warmest welcome and best wishes to the exchange students. She wished everyone of them could enjoy themselves from the school life here in SDU. She also wished all the exchange students could strengthen their mutual understanding and friendship with SDU’s students through communication. After the speech, a well-made video was shown to give the newcomers a general impression of Shandong University. Then the organizer of this event GaoYaqiao patiently introduced the Handbook for Exchange Students. Her detailed introduction gave an outline of the typical school life of SDU. Started earlier on 12th of this February, a series of activities were held to help receive the exchange students. SICA members picked up most of the exchange students at the airport and offered their hands in delivery and check-in etc. During the following part, President of SICA CuiXiaoxu made a further introduction of SICA and Anja ,the representative of exchange students ,give her sincere thanks the SICA members for their kind and sincere help. At the end of the Orientation, every exchange student stood up and introduced him or herself in Chinese. The event ended in the liveliest atmosphere.
After the Orientation, the students took the school bus and started the exciting “Campuses Tour”. During the following day, the exchange students left their footprints on West Campus, South Campus, South New Campus, School of Software Programming and Old Campus. On each campus, there were volunteers guiding them in both Chinese and English. The first stop was West Campus. The buildings with classic simplicity and the museum with historical treasures made them unwilling to leave. The old attic and the big tree witnessed our golden youth and growing friendship. At noon, the exchange students arrived in South Campus and had a big meal together with the SICA volunteers in the canteen. The next stop came to South New Campus. Besides the Tiangong Lake of the campus, the new comers bathed themselves in the fresh air and far-flung mountain views. Amazed by the modern buildings and beautiful gardens, the exchange students took pictures all along the way. Later the bus took our group to the School of Software Programming which is also known for its inspiring modernity. Their final stop was Old Campus. Hand in hand, students from home and abroad walked across the small bridge, stepped on the green grass. The old buildings reflected the gentle light of the red, setting sun into our eyes. Outside the Gothic Cathedral was a most harmonious scene---friends with hearts closely connected were talking and laughing happily. Back to New Campus, the exchange students changed contact ways with their Chinese friends and were unwill to say good bye to them.
SICA Member WangLi said, “It is so great today! These exchange students are honest and lovely. We do not have so many barriers as I thought in communication. We have become very good friends.”
“This year’s Orientation is a great success! This is mainly due to our members. They have kept a good relationship with exchange students since picking them up at the airport. I hope this good relationship can last and this is the biggest motive for our association to grow up.” Said by the organizer GaoYaqiao.
